Qualification of the Month: TQUK Level 4 Certificate in Teaching and Learning for Sustainable Development (RQF)
Here at Training Qualifications UK, we are always working hard to create new qualifications to help learners develop in their careers. That’s why September’s Qualification of the month is our new TQUK Level 4 Certificate in Teaching and Learning for Sustainable Development (RQF).
When children are taught to do something from a young age, it becomes a habit through their crucial years of growth. By integrating sustainability into the school curriculum, children learn essential life skills, such as how to take care of themselves and their surroundings.
According to a survey from School Zone, 99% of teachers who completed the survey think that managing environmental change in school is important.
This qualification is for educators including but not limited to:
- Secondary, FE, and HIE
- Teaching and learning support staff, such as curriculum developers and departmental heads
- Institutional leadership teams
- Student teachers
The TQUK Level 4 Certificate in Teaching and Learning for Sustainable Development (RQF) will allow learners to develop their knowledge, skills, and understanding of a range of topics relating to sustainability and ways sustainability can be embedded into the curriculum.
The UK Government and a wide range of national agencies believe that we need to foster, through education, the values, behaviour, and lifestyles required for a sustainable future.
Education can both prepare students for future changes and give them the tools to prevent further damage. If teachers start to educate students at a young age, they’ll have the ability to survive in an unknown future landscape.
This will also help aid students’ understanding of environmental problems and solutions, as well as their ability to learn how this applies to a variety of contexts/industries.
Ben Dainty, Teaching and Learning Product Development Manager at The Skills Network said, “The role of educators and educational partners in establishments and institutions has never been more paramount in this global agenda to a more sustainable world, especially by embedding and underpinning key concepts in an educational setting to enhance the knowledge of the current and next generation of learners.”
What does the qualification cover?
This qualification covers a wide range of topics, such as:
- Climate change and sustainability basics for educators
- Introduction to education for sustainable development
- Teaching and learning strategies for sustainability and climate change
- Ways to embed sustainability into curriculum
- Learning and supporting sustainability in an education setting
Learners don’t need any specific entry requirements to do this qualification, however they should have a minimum of level 2 in literacy and numeracy or equivalent.
What can learners progress on to?
Once the qualification is completed, learners can then progress further onto more TQUK qualifications such as:
- Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training
- Level 4 Certificate for Higher Level Teaching Assists
The total qualification time for this qualification is comprised of GLH and an estimate of the number of hours a learner is likely to spend in preparation, study or any other learning including assessment, which takes place as directed by, but not under the supervision of, a lecturer, supervisor, or tutor.
How to start delivering the qualification if you’re a centre:
To be able to offer any TQUK qualification, each centre must be recognised by TQUK and meet qualification approval criteria.
